Great American Wheels & Wings was started by Jim Harvey at Northwest Regional Airport in Roanoke, Texas. It is a monthly show that is held from April through November combining aircraft, automobiles and motorcycles on display for viewing by owners and the public. We have added shows at DFW area businesses (less the wings, or course, except for maybe an occassional helicopter, or two!). "Jim handing over money for painting his '63 S.S. Impala 409!" (This car is a frame-off resto mod. It is a true S.S., not a "clone"!) 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Victory Red Coupe Jim has had many years of show car ownership and car show involvement. Car show experience dates back to 1962 when, at age 15, he became a junior member of the QuarterMilers, a Dallas area car club. The next three years, Jim drove a 1963 S.S. Impala 409, similar to the one above, in high school and college.
The QuarterMilers hosted the Dallas Autorama for several years before it was turned over to Chief Auto Parts and then O'Reilly's. Many years of Autorama experience enables Jim to more fully understand the complexities of hosting a successful car show. Jim personally hosted and participated in several local car shows before establishing Great American Wheels & Wings. He has thought for some time that something was missing from the local car show circuit and wanted to fill the void. Participant input is very important to Great American Wheels & Wings and the wishes of participants are considered at ALL times! Decades of owning and running successful businesses coupled with a lifetime of LISTENING, attention to detail, follow-up and implementation help ensure that ALL car enthusiasts, participants and spectators alike, will have a worthwhile experience. We ask that you please help us make this show one of the most popular around by participating whenever possible. Owners who have joined us on previous occasions have remarked about the enjoyable atmosphere and what a relaxing experience they had. The location at an operating airport is not unique as there are other wheels and wings events in other areas of the country. It is somewhat different for the DFW area, however. The blend of aircraft, cars and motorcycles at a show provides an interesting mix that makes this event much more exciting than an ordinary car show. We are currently building the plane participant base and expect that to grow significantly in 2010 (see NW Regional Airport Air Fair info). We have formulated a fair competition program and, beginning in April 2010, will offer the choice to entrants whether they compete in participant judging, or not. Show 'n' shine only is available to owners not wishing to compete. Everyone is welcome! Currently, public spectators are not charged an admission fee and we don't anticipate changing that policy anytime, soon. We hope that you will join us. Although, NW Regional is the only airport currently being used for the Great American Wheels & Wings shows, we are hopeful that other airports will work with us in hosting them. If you are interested in having your airport become part of our Great American Wheels & Wings show network, contact us. HELP WANTED!!! Great American Wheels & Wings benefiting Paws 'n' Wheels animal welfare is starting to schedule alot of events this year! Assistance is needed at the shows. A nominal expense reimbursement for up to two people at each show can be made. Contact us if you would like to know more. |
